Cefla machines are workhorses, but they rely on those shortwave IR lamps to actually get the job done—curing finishes and drying adhesives. The problem is, when those OEM lamps finally burn out, the price tag for the originals can be a gut punch. It leaves a lot of engineers staring at cheaper domestic options and wondering: Can I actually use these, or am I going to fry my machine? Here is the honest truth about swapping them out. The “Fit” is Everything If you want a replacement that just works, you can’t eyeball it. I’m talking about matching the voltage, wattage, and length down to the last millimeter. Why? Because if the resistance is even slightly off, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll either trip your breakers or, even worse, your product won’t cure properly. We use high-purity quartz glass so the heat ramps up exactly when it should. And please, check your connectors. Whether it’s an R7s or an SK15, it needs to be a tight fit. A loose connection creates an arc, and that’s how you end up with a melted socket. The Science of the Heat These lamps are designed to hit the workpiece directly. They aren’t meant to heat up the air around the part; they go straight for the material. To keep the filaments from evaporating too fast, we use a halogen gas fill. Some of our lamps even have a special coating. This is a lifesaver because it lets the heat penetrate deep into the substrate without scorching the surface of your furniture. But here is where people usually mess up:the reflectors. High-wattage IR tubes create an intense amount of heat. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, that heat bounces right back into the tube. It stresses the quartz until it pops. Keep those reflectors polished. One last thing—don’t try to “hack” your production speed by cranking up the wattage beyond the original specs.
